JOHN E. KEEGAN

Biography

JOHN E. KEEGAN was born in Spokane, Washington, and graduated from Gonzaga Prep, Gonzaga University, and Harvard Law School. His work as a lawyer has included the General Counsel's Office for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C., the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and private practice. He is currently a partner in Davis Wright Tremaine LLP (http://www.dwt.com), in Seattle, where he practices land use, real estate, and municipal law. He has also taught at the University of Washington Law School and in numerous Continuing Legal Education Seminars.

He is a graduate of the University of Washington Fiction Writing Program. His novels include CLEARWATER SUMMER (Carroll & Graf), selected as one of the New York Public Library's Best Books for 1996, PIPER (The Permanent Press), and A GOOD DIVORCE (The Permanent Press), which was selected by BookSense76 for its November-December 2002 list. Keegan teaches writing in the University of Washington Fiction Writing Program.

He is the father of Carla Carlstrom and David Keegan. Carla is married to Terry Carlstrom, and they are both prosecuting attorneys for King County. David is married to his Taiwanese sweetheart, Su, and is a principal in Bamboo Hardwoods, where he is a zealous advocate of engineered bamboo flooring and furniture. John has two grandchildren, Emma Jill Carlstrom and Maya Su Keegan, born just over a month apart in 2002.
